Where it all began

      My name is katniss Everdeen. I live in district twelve, it is what used to be North America, but is now called Panem. District twelve is the poorest district of them all. Most of the district is a ghetto, the houses near Katniss's are shacks, and the area is very dirty. The whole district is gated and beyond that is all forest. Every year there is a possibilitie thta I will get sent to the capitol so i can fight to the death with other tributes.
On the day of the reaping the whole town  gathered at town square. A tragedy had occured that day. As I was hoping in my head that I wouldnt be pciked over and over again in my head, my name wasent called. Instead my poor helpless younger sister's names was called, Primrose Everdeen. I was in shock, and when I saw my sister walk down the path to the stage I realized was was going on and I did what i had to do to save my sister from death as I knew she would stand no chance and be killed with in minutes. I ran infront of her and voluntered for position as the female tribute. I was worried about leaving my mother and sister. I was unsecure weather I could trust that they would be feed everynight, I would ussualy provide the food on the table. It became that way when my dad died from a mine collapsing on him, and my mother brooke down so she did not work wich meant no food. If it wasn't for me my family would starve. Fortunately I was insured that Gale would do his best to hunt for himself, Prim, and my mother. Then I was off to the capitol
